The San Antonio Spurs overwhelm the Miami Heat by 25 points, extending their losing streak as Victor Wembanyama dominates the paint and glass.

The Miami Heat’s losing streak extends to five games after a 136–111 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night. Outside of the first quarter, it was a display of one-sided dominance. As the regular season reaches the final stretch, the chances of getting out of the Play-In Tournament are cutting thin.

Despite only playing 26 minutes, Victor Wembanyama finished with a forceful performance: 26 points on 50 percent shooting, 15 rebounds, four assists, and five blocks. Despite missing all but one attempt from behind the arc, the two-time All-Star managed to cause damage with 20 points in the paint.

The 22-year-old dealt with injuries throughout the regular season. As the game went out of reach, the Spurs were able to save Wembanyama from extensive play.

The Heat were outrebounded 62-38 on Monday night. Both bigs, Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware, combined for 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Wembanyama alone finished with more than them.

The Spurs dominated the offensive glass 17-7, which resulted in 25 second-chance points compared to the Heat’s six.

Both Adebayo and Norman Powell reached double figures in scoring, but were inefficient. It became too much for the rest of the team to overcome. Adebayo finished with 18 points on 29.4 percent shooting, making just two of 10 three-point attempts, three rebounds, four assists, and a steal in 29 minutes. Despite breaking numerous records in several games, the 28-year-old couldn’t gather a rhythm offensively.

Monday marked the third game Powell came off the bench this season. He finished with a team-high 21 points on 38.9 percent shooting, making just four of 11 three-point attempts, four rebounds, and two assists in 30 minutes. The 32-year-old failed to provide the Heat an offensive spark.

Meanwhile, the Spurs had strong contributions from a couple of reserves in Keldon Johnson and rookie guard Dylan Harper. They combined for 42 points on 57.1 percent shooting, including six three-pointers made.

The Heat fall to a 38-34 record, ninth in the Eastern Conference standings. They had an opportunity to climb as the Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic both lost their respective matchups on Monday. The team is looking to remain in the Play-In Tournament for a fourth consecutive season.

“You have all these opportunities when you’re tested in this league collectively,” Erik Spoelstra said. “We’re being tested right now. We’re not the only team being tested. It feels uncomfortable, there’s no doubt about it. We, definitely in basically every facet of the game, were outplayed tonight. It’s one game. I understand the other four, but there are some really good things in the other games moreso than this. We just have to stay the course. We’re still bunched up with all these teams in the East. Whoever can just show that collective grit right now has that golden opportunity. The only way to develop that grit, you got to go through it, and we’re going through it right now.”
