Key players ignited the Miami Heat's offense, overcoming a third-quarter scare and a strong Cleveland Cavaliers comeback to secure a crucial win.

The Miami Heat snapped a five-game losing streak after a 120-103 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night. As the regular season reaches the final stretch, every matchup holds significant value as the team carves a path out of the Play-In Tournament. Despite a first-half dominant performance, the game’s trajectory changed after a third-quarter hiccup. However, a couple of key players rose to the occasion in closing out with impactful minutes.

As the Cavaliers struggled shooting from the outside, making three on 15 attempts in the first half. Part of the early start was due to the lack of James Harden’s offense. The 11-time All-Star recorded seven points on 33.3 percent shooting and three assists in 20 first-half minutes. Harden is known to draw fouls, but he only got to the free-throw line four times. The Heat’s defense made it difficult for the 36-year-old veteran to make an impact as a scorer or playmaker.

Meanwhile, the Heat were off to a hot start, shooting 46.4 percent from three-point range in the first half, making 13 of 28 attempts. They led by as many as 21 points before halftime.

However, in the third quarter, the Cavaliers sparked a 15-4 run, which cut the deficit to single digits. The score was tied at 83 apiece heading into the fourth. Donovan Mitchell and Sam Merrill combined for 24 points and six three-pointers made to regain control of the game.

The Heat’s offense hit a rough patch, shooting 10 percent from behind the arc, making one out of 10 attempts. However, 12 points in the paint made up for the slow offense.

As the fourth quarter went back and forth, the separator was impactful plays by Kel’el Ware and Pelle Larsson. After an airball three-point attempt by Jaime Jaquez Jr., the Swedish guard saved the possession from going out of bounds to the second-year big man. Immediately after, Ware found the 25-year-old forward for an open dunk. Not only did the Heat extend the lead again, but they wouldn’t trail afterwards, claiming the victory.

Ware finished with 13 points on 100 percent shooting, including three three-pointers made, 11 rebounds, four assists, and a block in 20 minutes off the bench. He was part of the Heat’s closing lineup alongside Bam Adebayo. The 21-year-old finished with a game-high plus-32.

Larsson finished with 14 points on 60 percent shooting, five rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block in 34 minutes off the bench. Whether it’s scoring on a key possession, getting a stop, causing a turnover, or diving on the court for a loose ball, he’s proven to do it all for the team.

Eight players scored in double figures, including all of the Heat starters.

As nine games remain on the regular-season schedule, the level of urgency must remain high. After Wednesday’s win, the team sits at eighth in the Eastern Conference standings, only 1.5 games back of a top-six seed. They will face the Cavaliers again on Friday night in Cleveland.

“We’ve been talking about our collective grit for 10 days, two weeks, during this stretch,” coach Erik Spoelstra said. “Games don’t always go according to plan; they rarely do. You’re going to have to fight for it at some point. Did we like that third quarter? No, but the way we responded is the most important thing. In the Charlotte [Hornets] game, it just went the other way. We’ve had some really good games in the last two weeks that we’ve dropped. This one, we were able to push through and secure the win. Defensively, we were very good for the majority of the night. That’s what we’ve been talking about, leaning on our habits. We have great habits over the course of 70-plus games to taking a lot of pride, trying to build a top-five defense. We want it to show right now, when it matters the most. We were able to do that for the most part tonight.”
