This NBA trade idea sends a New York Knicks player to the Charlotte Hornets.

A trade idea sending a New York Knicks player to the Charlotte Hornets was created by NBA analyst Sai Mohan of Heavy Sports.

Mohan proposed the following trade between the Knicks and Hornets:

Knicks would receive: Ryan Kalkbrenner

Hornets would receive: Miles McBride, 2027 second-round pick (via NYK), 2029 second-round pick (via NYK), 2029 second-round pick (via PHX)

McBride will make $3,956,523 next season in the final year of his contract. He has spent his entire NBA career with the Knicks, who won the 2016 championship against the San Antonio Spurs.

The Hornets traded LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves this summer. Coby White will start at point guard for Charlotte next season and Mohan believes McBride can run the Hornets' offense when White is on the bench.

"McBride could be the ideal backup PG who can organize the offense and also make big shots when called upon," Mohan wrote. "McBride also brings the veteran leadership that some would argue is missing from the Hornets roster. Duece is coming off the best season of his career, averaging career highs in points (12.0), made threes (2.7), and three-point percentage (41.3%). He could be Charlotte’s version of Nickeil Alexander-Walker — the reigning Most Improved Player — who took his game to another level when granted a new opportunity. On the Knicks, he may never get to truly shine given the talent ahead of him."

For the Knicks last season, McBride averaged 12.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 42.3% from the field, 41.3% from beyond the arc and 78.7% from the free-throw line.

McBride has been in the NBA since 2021. He holds career averages of 7.1 points per game in the regular season and 6.2 points per game in the playoffs.

The Hornets are widely expected to start White, Brandon Miller, Kon Knueppel, Naz Reid and Moussa Diabaté next season.

Charlotte missed the playoffs last season by one game. The franchise hasn't made the playoffs since 2016, but the future of the team looks bright with White, Miller, Knueppel, Reid and Diabaté leading the way.

It will be fascinating to see if the Hornets trade for McBride, who doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract.
