Kings Collapse During 3rd Quarter in Falling to Raptors cover image

Sacramento was outscored by a massive amount against Toronto during a Wednesday night contest.

The Sacramento Kings jumped to a nine-point lead at the half against the Toronto Raptors -- and looking like the two-game slide would end.

But things imploded badly in the third quarter in stunning fashion.

Toronto exploded by outscoring Sacramento 43-21. That massive run helped lead into the 122-109 Kings home loss on Wednesday night inside the Golden 1 Center.

The Raptors scored the first four points of the third through Immanuel Quickley and Scottie Barnes -- the latter scoring off two free throws. Russell Westbrook broke up the run by hitting a 26-foot three-pointer.

Barnes returned, though, to hit a nine-foot jumper. Jamal Shead then made a running layup. Maxime Raynaud went on to score the next four baskets for Sacramento off a layup and nine-foot floating jump shot.

The Stanford star even had fans in attendance via Palo Alto, per Sean Cunningham of Sactown 1140 AM.

"Former NFL QB & Stanford football GM Andrew Luck is courtside with Vivek Ranadive tonight. Getting a good look at former Cardinal star Maxime Raynaud in Sacramento. Former US Volleyball & Stanford star Kerri Walsh-Jennings also seated with Ranadive," Cunningham posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.

Toronto and Sacramento briefly were tied at 73. Precious Achiuwa then got the Kings ahead through his two-pointer.

Toronto, though, countered with an 11-2 run that made it 84-77. Grady Dick then ended the third by making his two-pointer with 6.6 seconds.

Westbrook led the Kings by scoring 23 points in 35 minutes of play. He made 9-of-22 field goals including hitting two three-pointers. Zach LaVine added 19 points while grabbing one rebound but dishing out five rebounds. Achiuwa finished with 11 points and led the starters with eight rebounds.

DeMar DeRozan scored nine points following his late-game confrontation with Miami Heat starter Pelle Larsson on Tuesday evening. DeRozan was called for a flagrant one foul. He managed to earn 33 minutes for the Kings.

Raynaud scored eight points and hauled in seven rebounds in front of the Stanford legends. Malik Monk led the bench scoring with 17 points including nailing the most threes with a trio behind the arc.

Dennis Schroeder scored 16 points as a reserve while getting a team-high five free throws inside the net. Dylan Cardwell led Sacramento with 13 rebounds.

Sacramento has now lost three in a row following its season-best four-game winning streak. Wednesday ended the seven-game home stretch for the Kings. They now return to the road on Friday to face the Cleveland Cavaliers.
