DeMar DeRozan rose as a possibility for the Golden State Warriors -- all amid Jimmy Butler going down. Fans envisioned the perennial All-Star becoming the best replacement option for the Dubs star, even if it meant making a deal with the rival Sacramento Kings.
Is that trade bound to come into fruition?
One NBA insider poured cold water on that idea, however. Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints revealed that DeRozan to GSW likely won't happen.
“But the big question there is, ‘Is that really the type of value and the type of demand that if you're Mike Dunleavy Jr. that you're looking for in a Jonathan Kuminga trade?'" Siegel asked during his recent appearance with Sactown 1140 AM. "And I think that their aspirations are much higher than that."
Siegel even mapped out what the following two weeks will look like on the Warriors' end.
"And I believe that over the next 14 days, we're going to see the Warriors be very aggressive to try to go out and get a player that they have been targeting for quite some time," Siegel said.
But signs point to that player being Trey Murphy III of the New Orleans Pelicans. Murphy presents a far younger option compared to DeRozan -- as the latter is past 35 years of age.
Granted, DeRozan to the Warriors would've placed the veteran on one more playoff contender before he calls it a career. Siegel's intel points to the Warriors being aggressive in the trade market...but going with a youthful option over the perennial all-star.
Meanwhile, the Kings do have other names floating in the trade market.
One is Domantas Sabonis -- who's elevating his own trade value following a 24-point night on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Sabonis is linked to teams like the Toronto Raptors and others. DeRozan has largely been linked with the Warriors but also Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks.
However, Sabonis and DeRozan aren't labeled the most likely to be traded away. Keon Ellis has Siegel and other NBA insiders believing he'll be the one on the move. Ellis hasn't earned much minutes as of late for the Kings as Monk has taken a lot of his bench minutes -- sparking theories of a potential deal in the works.
