Sacramento scrutinizes a fresh wave of talent, including UConn’s sharpshooting champion and Kentucky's high-octane scorer, as the front office hunts for impact players in the upcoming draft.
The Sacramento Kings have been one of the most active teams in the NBA with scheduling pre-draft workouts, with 18 prospects already coming in for a closer look.
On Friday, the next wave of six NBA-hopefuls was revealed, with players like UConn's Alex Karaban and Louisville's Ryan Conwell making the trip to Sacramento.
In this piece, I will give a brief overview of each prospect who worked out on Friday.
Otega Oweh (G, Kentucky)
Oweh was one of the most high-octane scorers in college basketball last season, averaging 18.6 points per game and putting constant pressure on opposing defenses.
The 6-foot-4 senior scored 35 points, including a ridiculous buzzer-beating 3-pointer from just over half court to force overtime.
In the following round, Oweh had another strong performance, scoring an efficient 18 points while hauling in eight rebounds.
Oweh is currently listed as the No. 57 overall prospect in the class, according to ESPN's big board.
Ryan Conwell (G, Louisville)
Conwell, who spent four collegiate seasons with four different programs, had his best scoring year with Louisville.
The journeyman averaged 18.8 points per game, posting double-digit scoring outputs in all but one game for the Cardinals.
Early in the season, in a huge rivalry game against then-ranked No. 9 Kentucky, Conwell scored 24 points, knocking down four 3-pointers to help knock off the Wildcats.
Alex Karaban (F, UConn)
In four seasons with the Huskies, Karaban posted an absurd 116-24 record, losing less games than some teams drop in a single season.
Karaban helped jumpstart UConn's resurgence as a powerhouse program, leading the Huskies to two National Championships and three Final Four appearances.
The 6-foot-7 forward never had a season shooting less than 34.7-percent from deep, while constantly giving maximum effort on the defensive end.
Karaban shot the lights out at the recent NBA Draft Combine, with the Huuskies' sharpshooter leading all participants in the spot shooting drill (74.8-percent).
Tyler Nickel (F, Vanderbilt)
Last season, Nickel knocked down the third-most long balls in program history (110) at Vanderbilt, shooting at a 40-percent clip.
Nickel also set career-bests from the field (44.5-percent) and the free-throw line (84.7-percent).
Mark Mitchell (F, Missouri)
After two seasons at Duke, Mitchell made the move to the SEC, excelling under Missouri head coach Dennis Gates.
Last season, Mitchell showed extreme growth as a scorer, notching 18.3 points per game, while improving his 3-point shooting by nearly 13 percentage points (38.8-percent).
Tobi Lawal (F, Virginia Tech)
While keeping his scoring average steady, Lawal posted career-bests in rebounds (8.5) and blocks (1.1) per game.
The 6-foot-8 London Native had six double-doubles for the Hokies, including a 22-point, 11-rebound showing against Notre Dame.
