Following a breakout G-League campaign and late-season scoring surges, the versatile forward secures his future in Sacramento to bolster a frontcourt rotation fighting for Western Conference playoff positioning.
After the Sacramento Kings added Jonathan Mogbo and Adam Flagler on two-way deals, 27-year-old forward Daeqwon Plowden's future with the franchise grew a bit murkier.
However, on Thursday, days after the Kings extended a qualifying offer to Plowden, a deal was made.
Plowden and Sacramento agreed to a 2-year, $5.1 million deal, giving him his first standard NBA contract.
Roundtable's Demetrius Montero had reported earlier this week about the Kings securing the right to match an offer sheet for Plowden from another team, but Sacramento was able to resign him regardless.
As a two-way player last season, Plowden averaged 10.8 points per game, shining during his increased opportunities late in the season.
After signing a two-way contract on July 30, 2025, Plowden burst onto the scene with the Stockton Kings, averaging 22.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 15 appearances.
Plowden made seven starts in the NBA, mostly during the waning months of the regular season, but showed flashes of consistency.
In March, Plowden recorded ten straight double-digit scoring outings, filling in for a ravaged Kings lineup.
Late in the month, Plowden set new career-highs twice, following up his 22-point showing against the Charlotte Hornets with a 23-point night against the Orlando Magic.
Plowden was 9-18 from 3-point range during the two-game stretch, knocking down six triples against Orlando.
Outside of scoring the ball, Plowden plays with great effort and intensity, bringing his all on both ends.
Multiple times throughout the season, although the team was struggling, Plowden was giving maximum effort, playing hard regardless of score and scenario.
Despite being thrust into a larger role rather quickly, Plowden was able to react and respond accordingly, becoming a key part of Sacramento's late-season rotation.
If Plowden can continue to develop as a more consistent shooter from distance, his size and mobility could earn him playing time off the bench this season.
After bouncing around with the Golden State Warriors' and Atlanta Hawks' G-League squads, Plowden has seemingly found a home in Sacramento.
The front office still has work to do regarding veteran forward DeMar DeRozan and potentially moving one of either Zach LaVine or Domantas Sabonis, meaning the depth of the roster could be crucial, especially in the beginning of the season.
Plowden, along with rookie forward Alex Karaban, and newly resigned forward Precious Achiuwa will battle for minutes in the front court and on the wing.
