The Sacramento Kings have a solid roster across the board, and in particular, the point guard position now has some very solid depth, which could be critical for the Kings this season.

With that said, let's take a look at the point guard position as a whole and see where it stands heading into the 2026 season.

At this point, it seems like the expectation is that rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr. will start at the point guard position and should be in a good spot to be able to build on what he did in college with the Arkansas Razorbacks.

With Arkansas in 2025, Acuff averaged 23.5 points per game which ranked third in the nation when it came to scoring and heading into his rookie season, he could very bring that success from college to the NBA.

As Acuff heads into his rookie season, really the only question is how he can translate his game from college to the NBA, but if he does so effectively he should be a solid starter for the Kings and could have a stellar rookie season.

Off the bench, the Kings will most likely bring veteran guard Malik Monk, who has become a solid rotational scorer for the Kings and is arguably one of the better sixth men in the entire league.

Last season, Monk was quite impressive as he averaged 12.5 points per game off the bench and shot 39.5 percent from three, which gave the Kings a very explosive scorer in the second unit.

Heading into 2026, if Monk can continue his consistency from beyond the arc and as a scorer overall, he may have an opportunity to truly compete for the sixth man of the year award.

Also on the roster, the Kings have veteran guard Ben Simmons, who signed with the Kings in free agency and has proven himself to be a reliable and solid player throughout his NBA career.

Standing at 6-10 and 240 pounds, Simmons has the ability to play a variety of positions, but his best attributes are getting downhill on the offensive end and playmaking, while on the defensive end, he serves as a versatile defender and a great rebounder.

So, as Simmons prepares for the upcoming season it will be interesting to see how he can impact this roster on both ends and where he ends up in the rotation whether it is at point guard or at another position.

Another point guard on the depth chart is Adam Flagler who has not had a ton of success in the NBA thus far but could take advantage of this opportunity with the Kings.

At this point, Flagler is signed to a two way contract and is coming off a pretty solid season in the G-league as he averaged 14.5 points, 4.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game which showcases his ability to contribute on both ends.

Heading into the 2026 season, Flagler may not be a major part of the rotation, but if he continues to improve, he could become a solid depth piece.

The final point guard on the roster is veteran guard Elfrid Payton who the Kings just recently signed a training camp deal and could compete for a final roster spot if he has a solid training camp and preseason.

Throughout Payton's career, he has been a good option at the point guard position with his ability to drive downhill and get to the rim and make plays for others as indicated by his career average of 9.8 points and 5.8 assists per game.

Throughout training camp and the preseason, it will be interesting to monitor Payton's performance, and if he does play well, he could have an opportunity to make this roster and potentially get into the rotation.

As the Kings head into the 2026 season, the overall takeaway does seem to be that there is plenty of depth at the point guard position with Acuff, Monk, Simmons, Flagler, and Payton, but there is some uncertainty as to how it will work out.

With that said, it will be very interesting to monitor how training camp goes and who asserts themselves as key rotational pieces, as well as those who may be deeper down the bench, at least to start the 2026 season.
