It was a hard-fought victory, but the New York Knicks came out victorious in their Sunday evening contest with a depleted Golden State Warriors team. The Knicks pulled off a gutsy comeback after being down more than 20 points to secure the victory.
A win is a win, but it's safe to say plenty in New York weren't exactly pleased with how the game went down. There's two ways to look at this. You can frame it from the perspective of winners doing what needs to be done to secure a victory, or you can make the argument that this team is too talented to be in need of a comeback.
The latter is the mental framework a lot of Knicks fans are approaching this with. If this team wants to win a championship, they simply have to learn how to take care of business against lesser competition.
After the game, Jalen Brunson was asked in the locker room about New York's ability to flip a switch. The question from a reporter was regarding whether having the ability to turn things around quickly could possibly give this team a false sense of security.

"I mean, I guess," Brunson said. "But I think most importantly, we got to focus on the task at hand. Who we're playing, the scouting report, attention to detail. All the little things that make a huge part of the game."
Brunson is right, and it's honestly the only answer he could give. You can't spend energy worrying about whether your comeback ability is making you complacent. You just have to show up, do the work, and handle your business night after night while paying attention to the little details.
That said, the worry from Knicks fans isn't coming from nowhere. New York has too much talent to be spotting teams 20-point leads on a regular basis. Against a Warriors team missing Stephen Curry and resting half their rotation, this game should never have been as stressful as it was.
Knicks Must Play With More Consistency
The regular season is winding down and the playoffs are right around the corner. In the postseason, you don't always get the luxury of a slow start and a momentum swing to bail you out. Digging yourself a deep hole in the playoffs is far more often than not going to end up with your team going home with a loss.
What you can take comfort in as a Knicks fan is that Jalen Brunson is exactly who you need leading this team into April and May. Thirty points, nine assists, and the composure to bring his team all the way back from a massive deficit. He's not going to disappear when the moment is too big.
New York is now riding three wins in a row and is still looking like a team that will be dangerous throughout the spring and into the summer. Coming out focused from the jump is one of the biggest things that still needs correcting.
