Jalen Brunson welcomes the challenge of facing the Philadelphia 76ers.
With the New York Knicks winning the NBA Championship, teams around the Eastern Conference have decided to load up their rosters to eventually reach New York's level. One team that made big moves was the Philadelphia 76ers, who signed two former Finals MVPs to their roster this summer.
Philadelphia first traded for Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics. Brown is coming off a career year in which he averaged a career-high 28.7 points per game and looked like an MVP candidate. Much of his success was in the absence of Jayson Tatum, and Brown proved he could be the first option on a winning team.
Another piece the 76ers added was LeBron James. James is not coming off his most impressive season statistically, but he is still a 20-point-per-game scorer and could be a solid third or fourth option on a loaded Philadelphia lineup.
Bill Streicher-Imagn ImagesKnicks point guard Jalen Brunson recently spoke about the way teams in the Eastern Conference have approached this offseason because of their success and what it will be like to play the 76ers next season.
How Does New York Match Up with Philadelphia?
Though many assume the 76ers are the best team in the Eastern Conference because of how they look on paper, the Knicks are still the team to beat. In their postseason run, New York looked very dominant against formidable opponents, one of those being the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Knicks swept the 76ers, and although this team looks much different after the offseason, New York is still the champion. Philadelphia could be better equipped to beat New York this year, however, because of the additions of Brown and James.
Bill Streicher-Imagn ImagesMuch of the damage the Knicks did to the 76ers came from turning defense into offense. The Knicks played a fast-paced style of offense, but they also outmatched Philadelphia physically.
With LeBron and Jaylen Brown, it could be harder to do that against them because of how physical they can be and how little they turn the ball over. Each player on the 76ers starting lineup is a capable ball-handler except for Joel Embiid, who when healthy is one of the top big men in the NBA.
If the Knicks can continue their fast-paced attack on the 76ers and continue their elite team defense, they can find themselves back where they were in June.
