Karl-Anthony Towns wants the Knicks to put last season behind them and enter hungry.

This season, the New York Knicks enter the year with a very similar roster to their 2026 championship roster. The Knicks made it a point of emphasis to bring back key role players such as Jose Alvarado, Landy Shamet, and Jordan Clarkson.

Now, the team enters the season with high expectations after winning the championship, and other teams in the Eastern Conference have loaded up their roster to compete with them.

Recently, Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns was on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and he spoke about the team's mindset heading into 2026-2027. He used the same motto the rest of the team used when they were in the middle of their postseason run, and it's to keep that "0-0" mindset.

Towns believes the Knicks have to keep that same level of hunger if they want to make it far next season, and they may have to keep that mentality considering how difficult the competition in the East is.

The Philadelphia 76ers added LeBron James and Jaylen Brown, and if that team stays healthy for the majority of the season, they will be tough to stop in the playoffs. Another team that loaded up on talent was the Miami Heat.

The Heat decided to pair up Bam Adebayo with Giannis Antetokounmpo, and if their supporting cast can play at a high level, this is a team to watch for moving forward. Even though multiple teams in the East made moves to get better and compete with New York, it just proves the Knicks are still the team to beat.

What gives the Knicks an advantage over the teams that made drastic changes to their rosters is continuity. Jalen Brunson will be entering his fifth season with New York, while Karl-Anthony Towns is entering his third.

New York also peaked at the perfect time during the 2026 playoffs, and if they can carry that over to the 2026-2027 regular season, they will be a tough team to stop. The Knicks kept that "hungry" mindset Towns talked about throughout the playoffs, and that needs to be the same message going into this season.

Keeping the same level of intensity on defense from the playoffs to the regular season will also be key for the Knicks. This was a team that capitalized on turnovers and played at a very fast pace. If they can continue to play with that rhythm and intensity, they should be one of the contending teams in the Eastern Conference again.
