The next few weeks will be critical for the Knicks and for McBride.
One of the best accomplishments of the New York Knicks this offseason has been retaining so many members of their 2026 championship-winning roster when free agency threatened to part them with key pieces like Landry Shamet and Jose Alvarado, but instead the Knicks have held on to their crucial support pieces in time for next season.
But now the Knicks have to look even further ahead into the future and focus on retaining players that are already under contract, with extensions for foundational players like Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart taking the forefront on the Knicks' priority list, but there's another longtime Knick whose up for an extension, though he may not get it.
Miles "Deuce" McBride is the longest-tenured Knick on the roster, having been drafted by the Knicks in 2021 and debuting with them in the same year. McBride grew up as a player in the New York system and has become a fan favorite.

He has just as much love for the Knicks as well, but McBride is entering the final season of his current contract and there aren't assurances made via an extension that McBride will keeping being a Knick after this season, he may finally depart the team that raised him.
James L. Edwards recently wrote in The Athletic that an extension for McBride by the start of next season is paramount for faith in his future in New York, but the looming financial difficulties of the other extensions the Knicks need to make happen could halt any progress on McBride's own contract.

[Mitchell] Robinson was a casualty of owner James Dolan not wanting to go into the second apron, and McBride could likely be, too, depending on the financial decisions around Towns and Hart," Edwards III wrote.
Financial Contraints
McBride is set to make just under $4 million this upcoming season and the crux of Edwards III's argument is that McBride will likely seek a higher annual rate than that in any new contract, which could create a price that the Knicks simply can't afford, or won't be willing to pay.

Kyle Ross-Imagn ImagesLosing McBride would be a painful loss considering how established he's been as a player and the production he provides of the bench is something that New York would like to keep, so the situation is one where both sides don't have a good option.
Bur, McBride could go the route of Shamet and Alvarado and take a team-friendly contract that would let the Knicks keep him, but that'd a lot of stock put into hope to see if the Knicks can hold onto their longtime guard.
