The Knicks tried to move quickly to replace Mitchell Robinson.

The New York Knicks are still basking in championship glory, but the NBA doesn't stop, and the team is still looking for avenues to improve in hopes of repeating.

The Knicks lost backup center Mitchell Robinson to the Boston Celtics, with Robinson signing three-year, $47.4 million deal with Boston. The team also lost Ariel Hukporti, who proved to be a solid rotation player at points during the season, to the Philadelphia Sixers. He signed a one-year, $3.4 million deal with Philadelphia.

The team still has Karl-Anthony Towns as the starting center, and they did re-sign Mohamed Diawara, but otherwise their frontcourt is thin after losing Robinson and Hukporti.

A Potential Replacement

According to Chris Haynes, the Knicks tried to acquire New Orleans Pelicans center Yves Missi after losing Mitchell Robinson, but offers have been rejected multiple times.

It was not stated what the Knicks may have given up in the deal, only that the Pelicans view Missi as a core member of their team and that he is not available for trade.

Missi is making only $3.5 million this upcoming season as he's still on his rookie contract, so even though the Knicks don't have much cap space to work with and likely didn't want to trade any of their starters, he could've been acquired for lesser contracts and draft picks.

The Pelicans also have Derik Queen, another center, on a rookie deal, potentially signifying to the Knicks that Missi may have been available via trade.

A Worthy Swing?

The Knicks need some kind of frontcourt help going into next season.

Towns isn't going anywhere as the starter, but Robinson provided big minutes in the regular season and the post-season as an above the rim threat and a monster on the glass. He brought energy minutes off the bench, and it remains to be seen if Diawara can step up to potentially fill that role.

Robinson averaged 5.7 points and 8.8 rebounds last season with the Knicks in 19 minutes per game. Missi averaged 5.7 points and 5.8 rebounds in 19.7 minutes with the Pelicans. After starting the majority of his rookie season, he was moved to the bench in his sophomore year, impacting his overall numbers.

It's obvious that the Knicks saw the similarities in Robinson and Missi, and were looking to buy low on Missi after his demotion. The Knicks don't have standout players to offer the Pelicans, and their draft capital is limited thanks to previous trades.

The vision was clear in trying to acquire Missi, but the lack of assets may have hurt them more than Missi's availability.
