A pair of New York Knicks guards shared praise for Landry Shamet after his bounce back performance after injury absence

There's no denying that the New York Knicks have looked like a completely different team over the last month and change. On December 18th, fresh off a win in the NBA Cup Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, the Knicks defeated the Indiana Pacers to improve to 19-7, and it's gone downhill since.

Entering Wednesday's contest against the Brooklyn Nets, the Knicks had gone 6-11, with poor losses to the Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks being in the mix. With the Nets being set up as an opportunity for the Knicks to get right, that's exactly what they did on Wednesday night.

Knicks Blowout Nets In Bounce Back Performance

In a game that was decided by halftime, the Knicks defeated the Nets 120-66, a massive 54-point blowout, as the Knicks ended their losing streak at four games. Jalen Brunson led the way offensively with 20 points, but it was reserve guard Landry Shamet who arguably had the most impressive night.

After missing 25 games with an injury, Shamet had his first good performance since making his return, scoring 18 points in just 15 minutes, connecting on all six of his three-point attempts. In doing so, he earned some praise from his teammates, including Brunson and Miles McBride.

"He's great on both sides of the ball. The things he does, he does great. Happy to have him back healthy, that's the most important thing," Brunson said. "His contributions tonight and going forward are going to be huge for us."

On top of his scoring, Shamet added two steals and a block, joining Mitchell Robinson as the only Knicks players on Wednesday to record three combined steals and blocks.

"I mean, not surprised," McBride said of Shamet's shooting performance. "We see how he works every day. To deal with what he's had to deal with, it's a testimony to his hard work, how he prepares. We're not surprised."

A career 38.5% three-point shooter entering Wednesday's contest, Shamet is one of the top three-point shooters on the Knicks, and someone the team is happy to have back when their starters aren't hitting shots as someone else they can look to.

Before going down with his injury, Shamet posted a career high 36 points against the Miami Heat on November 14th, coming off the bench. While a rare outing from the 28-year-old guard, he's still a player who can get hot and rack up points quickly with his outside shooting.

However, the Knicks still have some decisions to be made before the deadline, as they could look to expand their depth at the forward position with Jordan Clarkson, Landry Shamet, Miles McBride, and Tyler Kolek all being suitable options off the bench at guard. But Shamet's knockdown shooting and cheap contract could keep him put.
