Jalen Brunson will follow four basketball legends when he hosts the season premiere of “Saturday Night Live.”
Jalen Brunson has already conquered the basketball stage in New York. He will soon receive an opportunity to take over one of the city’s most famous television stages.
The New York Knicks star will host the season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” on Sept. 26, NBC announced. Pop group Katseye will appear alongside Brunson as the episode’s musical guest.
Brunson will become only the fifth NBA player to host the long-running sketch-comedy show, joining Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Charles Barkley. Barkley has hosted the show multiple times, but Brunson will be making his debut at Studio 8H.
He will also become the first Knicks player to host “SNL.”
From Finals MVP to SNL
The announcement comes after the most successful season of Brunson’s career.
Brunson led New York to its first NBA championship in 53 years and was named MVP of the 2026 NBA Finals. He averaged 32.6 points, 4.6 assists and 4.2 rebounds during the Finals against the San Antonio Spurs, including a 45-point performance in the championship-clinching Game 5.
The title cemented Brunson’s status as one of the most important athletes in New York. Hosting the premiere of “SNL” gives him another opportunity to embrace the spotlight that has followed the Knicks’ championship run.
The appearance will come two days after Brunson and teammate Josh Hart host a live edition of “The Roommates Show” at Randall’s Island Park. The podcast has allowed both players to showcase their personalities and chemistry away from the court.
That experience could help Brunson with the show’s opening monologue and live sketches, although performing comedy on national television will present a much different challenge.

The short list of NBA players who have hosted the show reflects how rare the opportunity is.
Russell became the first NBA player to host in 1979. Jordan hosted in 1991, shortly after winning his first championship with the Chicago Bulls. Barkley made the first of his hosting appearances in 1993, while James took the stage in 2007.
Brunson now joins that group after leading one of the NBA’s most prominent franchises back to the top of the league.
There should be no shortage of possible material. Brunson’s relationship with Hart, his Villanova background and the excitement surrounding the Knicks could all become part of the episode. His championship run and rise as the unofficial face of New York basketball should also give the show’s writers plenty to explore.
Brunson has built his reputation through composure in high-pressure moments, but live television will test him in an entirely different way. Fortunately for the Knicks guard, handling pressure has become one of his defining qualities.
After delivering a championship to Madison Square Garden, Brunson will make the short trip to Rockefeller Center and attempt to deliver some laughs.
