The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday, 112-104.

For the second straight game, the Lakers were down double digits at the half before storming back in the second half. Unlike the game against the Denver Nuggets, they couldn't muster enough offense in the second half to complete the comeback.

Speaking to the media after the game, Lakers head coach JJ Redick gave his assessment of what went wrong.

"Just a poor job of defensive coverage execution. Then, didn't trust each other enough. Not enough passing. That was the line of the game, 'Not enough passing.' That's a consistent thing when we don't play well. We don't pass to each other and we don't execute defensively," said Redick.

Passing Problems

The Lakers are one of the least passing teams in the league, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if the right passes are made.

The Lakers average 269.4 passes per game, fourth lowest in the league. The Oklahoma City Thunder, the team on top of the league standings, has the lowest number of passes per game at 258.5 per game.

The lack of passing isn't so much the issue, it's that the passing doesn't always lead to opportunities.

The Lakers average 24.9 assists per game, sixth-worst in the league. Luka Doncic and LeBron James make up the majority of that total as they combine to average 15.6 assists.

The secondary assists and potential assists are where the lack of ball movement really shows.

They average 2.8 secondary assists, only better than the lowly Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, and Brooklyn Nets. Their secondary assist number is at 42.1, third worst in the league.

Looking At The Leaders

After the game, Redick was asked about LeBron and Luka being looked at to rectify the situation.

"There's got to be a trust factor with all of our guys. Trust the pass. That starts with Luka. He's going to have the ball for most of everyone. He has to trust the pass when he gets two on him or if he's playing in a crowd, pass the ball. As much as we talk about being connected on defense, you have to be connected on offense," said Redick.

Doncic is fourth in the league in assists, but he also leads the league in turnovers at 4.3 per game.

He's in the top ten in secondary assists and potential assists, showing that he is doing his best to create opportunities for the rest of his team.

The Lakers' overall offense has certainly slipped, though, with their offensive rating coming in at 113.8, three points lower than their season average. They are 4-6 in those games.
