LeBron James Addresses If He Can Keep Playing in the NBA cover image

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James addresses his future in the NBA.

LeBron James is in the middle of his 23rd NBA season at the age of 41, and while he's understandably slowed down, he remains one of the most impactful players in the league.

It is unknown if LeBron will return for a 24th season, but he still believes he can contribute at a high level.

LeBron is coming off a triple-double in his last game against the Dallas Mavericks, finishing with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists.

Speaking after the game, LeBron was asked if he could continue playing longer.

"I could, but I don't know. It's not like my game is deteriorating. I have so much knowledge of the game that I know how to still continue to make an impact. I can still do so many things on the floor," he said.

LeBron James In His 23rd Season

LeBron stated multiple times that his game isn't going anywhere, but it's his mind and body that need to hold up.

He said that if he's no longer in love with the process, then his body will start to wear down, and that's when it's a wrap because the love and fun will go as well.

LeBron's longevity can be attributed to how well his body has held up over the years despite the physical nature of the NBA. He hasn't suffered any major injuries and, excluding the shortened NBA season in 2020-21, has never played less than 55 games in a season.

He missed 14 games to start this season, but has only missed three games since, all in back-to-back situations.

He's averaging 22 points per game, and while that's his lowest scoring average since his rookie season, he still has an effective field goal percentage of 54%, which is in line with his career average.

His overall scoring can partially be attributed to his lowest field goal attempts in his career, as he shares the floor with Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

The Future of LeBron James

James will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, leaving him free to sign with any team of his choosing.

Aside from a potential return to the Lakers, he's been linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a final homecoming, and the Golden State Warriors to potentially play with Steph Curry.

Draymond Green has made it no secret that he would love to play with LeBron, and James Harden and Donovan Mitchell have reportedly been recruiting "The King" to come home.
