The Los Angeles Lakers could continue to add to the roster, even with training camp looming.

The Lakers are currently over the roster limit with 16 players under contract, and have undergone more changes than any team in the league this offseason, bringing in a number of fresh faces to support Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

Walker Kessler, Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Kevon Looney, Jaden Hardy, Ziaire Williams, and Matisse Thybulle have all joined the team via free agency or trade while they drafted Cameron Carr in the first round.

Jake LaRavia, Jarred Vanderbilt, Dalton Knecht, and Bronny James will all return alongside Doncic and Reaves.

Bleacher Report published a new article looking at landing spots for the remaining free agents, pegging Ochai Agbaji as a fit for the Lakers.

Agbaji has already signed a non-guaranteed deal with the Knicks, but if things don’t work out, he could still end up on the Lakers.

He spent last season with the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors, averaging 5.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.8 assists on 43% shooting from the field and 26% from three. He is a solid defensive player, fitting well in Toronto’s scheme before falling off in Brooklyn.

His lack of offense in Toronto saw him lose his spot in the rotation as he shot just 18% from three and wasn’t contributing in other areas.

Agbagi would be another defensive-minded wing, which would fit the bill in what the Lakers have been adding this season with the additions of Grimes, Thybulle, Williams and the drafting of Carr.

Probably not.

The Lakers already have too many players on the roster and will have to get rid of at least one player before the season starts. Adding Agbaji would mean a second player would have to go, and he’s not significantly better than anyone on the Lakers.

Knecht and Vanderbilt are the rumored names that the Lakers are looking to move. Unless the Lakers are looking to save money by moving both guys, which they seem to be having a hard time doing, it doesn’t make any sense to bring in Agbaji to serve as the replacement roster player over them.

They are better off keeping Knecht or Vanderbilt, as there is roster familiarity, and in the case of Vanderbilt, he has the defensive tools that Agbaji brings, but with the advantage of knowing the roster and coaches.
