Franz Wagner Shines Against Knicks, Proves Growth With Clutch Performance cover image

Wagner's 37-point masterclass against the Knicks showcases his offensive explosion and clutch ability, propelling the Magic's winning streak.

The Orlando Magic are firing on all cylinders, riding a nine-win streak in their last 12 games highlighted by star forward Franz Wagner’s career-best season. After a 133-121 victory over the New York Knicks, the Magic look to keep their momentum alive against the Boston Celtics, relying heavily on Wagner’s continued dominance to lead the charge.

Franz Wagner put on a statement performance against the Knicks, scoring 37 points on an efficient 13-19 shooting, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, along with seven assists and six rebounds. His leap in shooting and all-around play is a key factor for the Magic’s rising success. Coach Jamahl Mosley credits Wagner’s relentless work ethic and notes that opposing teams simply can’t afford to leave him open anywhere on the court. With Paolo Banchero’s return looming, Wagner’s continued excellence could position Orlando as a serious contender in the Eastern Conference.

“Teams try to keep him out of the paint,” Mosley said. “His ability to still get downhill and to the line is huge. When they go under, he sits down and knocks down shots. He works his tail off to get those shots and looks at different looks. He’s a tough cover for anyone, and there’s a reason he should be in the mentions of the big-time players in this league he plays both sides of the ball as well.”

Wagner said the Knicks matched him up with Mitchell Robinson, a defender who used to make him uncomfortable in the past. But this time, he trusted his shot and found his rhythm, leaving the Knicks clueless on how to stop him.

“They were guarding me with Robinson a bunch,” Wagner said. “In the past, it’s gotten a little stagnant when a big is on me, so just finding ways to still be aggressive but pick my spots and do it in the flow of the offense. We did a really good job with that as a team. You get into a rhythm, get some easy ones in transition. In the half-court, we did a good job of not stalling out.”
