Inside Paolo Banchero's Comments Following Crushing 107-106 Loss To Raptors cover image

Banchero dissects late-game breakdowns, a contested final shot, and the surprising offensive surge of a teammate in this tough defeat.

On what Toronto did to mount the comeback and win:

"I think their ability to keep possessions alive and get second chance points that kind of just kept them around hanging around. And then just their constant ball pressure on defense. I say those two things."

On the final shot attempt and whether he liked the look:

"Not really. I wanted to get downhill. But with 6 seconds play had me coming kind of up the floor. Then when I turned, was kind of two on the ball there, went right, got cut off, spun. By the time I spun, it's two seconds. So, at that point, I'm like try and create some space and get a clean look. And obviously it was a tough shot, but would have liked to try to get to the basket being down one there."

On finding rhythm tonight (triple-double performance):

"I felt decent. I would say not as good as I wanted to. But felt good enough and just disappointed that we didn't win."

On Anthony Black's explosion and his growth/confidence:

"Just his constant aggression in the different ways he's able to score. He can cut to the rim off the ball. He's a live threat. He can hit threes off the dribble, off the catch, drive the ball downhill. So, he's really starting to come into his own and just like you said, gain that confidence night in night out that he can really be effective."

On losing Jett Howard early and Desmond Bane late (impact on short-handed team):

"Those are two important guys, especially what we do offensively, defensively. I think as a team, just got to do a better job of holding on the leads in the fourth quarter. We've had a couple games that we've won where we've gave up the lead in the fourth quarter. And then this one we didn't win. And I think just as a team, no matter who's in or who's out, we just got to be able to come together, get more organized, and figure out a way to win these games when we're up the whole game. And then especially on the road, mainly on the road is what I'm talking about. That's going to be a big step for us."

On specific areas to improve mid-season (after triple-double):

"I think I'm just looking to improve everywhere. I think playmaking, rebounding. I think I haven't shot the ball well this year. I haven't played as well as I'd like to this year. And I think a lot of it is just me not going out there and having fun. And so I think focusing on that and letting the other stuff take care of itself, but just going out there playing for the love of the game and having fun, that's got to be the main focus for me."
