Orlando Magic head coach Sean Sweeney provided an injury update on guard Anthony Black and Noah Penda. He also talked about what training camp will look like ahead of the Magic's first preseason game.

After having Saturday off, the Orlando Magic got back to their training camp slate on Sunday with just days to go until their first preseason game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

After Sunday's practice, head coach Sean Sweeney met with the media to talk about what the group worked on. Sweeney has emphasized a focus on execution, and that remained the theme during Sunday's practice, especially as it pertained to the half-court offense.

Among those practicing were guard Anthony Black and forward Noah Penda. Black missed the first few days of training camp with a minor ankle sprain that he suffered during voluntary workouts leading up to camp, and Penda briefly missed time due to a tweaked hamstring.

According to Sweeney, both players were able to ramp up their workloads, and both said they felt great.

Building an identity

As Sweeney continues to get acclimated to being the head coach of the Magic, and the players get acclimated to him, the training camp days serve as a chance to build an identity. Sweeney knows how important competition is, and he said he is also mindful of the various parameters that players will get in terms of minutes.

Through his coaching tactics, Sweeney is ensuring that the team is striking a balance between being connected and working on toughness. Execution is also critical when building the identity the Magic are aiming to achieve.

So far, Sweeney said that he is feeling good about what the team has shown him, and he expressed excitement about the type of lineup combinations he can develop through the upcoming games and practices.

On Sunday, officials were present for Orlando's practice. In Sweeney's view, that helps establish boundaries so that he and his coaching staff are teaching within the rules.

Introducing the presence of referees also helps Sweeney and the Magic see where they need to improve. The communication the players receive from them will be beneficial moving forward.

Overall, the Magic continue to build upon the foundations they have set to be successful. As true competition nears, Sweeney finds himself becoming more excited for the challenges at hand.
