Orlando Magic forward Tristan da Silva is gearing up for his third NBA season, and he is aware of the progress both he and his teammates are making.
ORLANDO — The Orlando Magic proceeded with training camp on Friday at the AdventHealth Training Center, and afterwards, third-year forward Tristan da Silva provided his thoughts on what he referred to as an exciting camp.
In da Silva's view, everything has stood out about this camp under new head coach Sean Sweeney and his staff. From intensity to attention to detail, da Silva emphasized each element.
Like so many of his teammates, this is the first time da Silva has gone through a head-coaching change at the NBA level. It is an adjustment, but what has not changed or wavered has been the commitment of da Silva and his teammates to work hard and their desire to be coached hard in an effort to grow as players.
Da Silva is no stranger to adapting and adjusting quickly. In his rookie season, rather than having the chance to go to the G League to develop, da Silva appeared in 74 games for an injury-riddled Magic team. Of those 74 appearances, 38 were starts.
The 25-year-old former 18th overall pick out of Colorado has garnered significant and necessary experience to play at this level. Now, he is focused on building upon what he already knows to achieve a better version of the player that he already is.
To grow in the role that da Silva has already been assigned is what the coaching staff expects of him, and it is what he will do. Individually, he continues to find ways to work consistently through adversity and obstacles and remains receptive to teaching moments and coaching.
Over his first two seasons, da Silva has demonstrated incremental growth. During the 2024-25 campaign, which served as his rookie year, da Silva averaged 7.2 points while shooting 41.2% from the floor and 33.5% from three.
Last season, he appeared in 77 games and raised his scoring average to 9.9 points, as well as his field goal percentage to 45% and his 3-point percentage to 37.4%.
During training camp, da Silva is growing alongside his teammates. It has only been four days, but da Silva said he has seen a lot of growth compared to where the Magic were at the beginning of camp. That is a testament to the work he says everybody has put in.
There's still a lot of work to do for da Silva and his teammates to get to where they want to go, but he is cognizant of the progress that is being made.
