Masai Ujiri reached Naji Marshall at his childhood home with the news. The forward's three-year, $52.2 million extension runs through 2029-30.
Dallas Mavericks forward Naji Marshall was at his childhood home, preparing for a community event, when team president of basketball operations Masai Ujiri called to tell him the extension was done.
The Mavs announced the deal Sunday afternoon and posted video of the call that evening. However, the deal is worth $52.2 million over three years and is fully guaranteed. The deal runs through the 2029-30 season.
Marshall will play the coming season in the final year of his current contract, at $9.4 million. The extension begins in 2027-28.
"Naji has earned this opportunity through the way he approaches the game every day," Ujiri said. "He is a competitive player who impacts winning in a variety of ways. His versatility, toughness and willingness to embrace every challenge make him an important part of what we're building."
In 2025-26, Marshall averaged 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists across 74 games. He shot 51.0% from the field. His points, assists, field goal percentage, 1.1 steals, and 29.5 minutes per game were all career highs, as were his 47 starts.
Marshall has played 143 games for Dallas and started 78 of them. Over the two seasons, he is averaging 14.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists, shooting 50.9% from the field and 77.8% from the free-throw line.
His career covers 373 games with New Orleans and Dallas. He is averaging 10.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 23.0 minutes. He has shot 47.1% from the field and 77.7% from the line.
Marshall went undrafted in 2020 and signed a two-way contract with New Orleans that December. Dallas signed him on July 6, 2024, to a three-year, $27 million contract.
Marshall spent three seasons at Xavier. He made the Big East All-Freshman Team in 2017-18, All-Big East Second Team in 2018-19, and All-Big East First Team in 2019-20.
Ujiri was hired on May 4 as president and alternate governor, replacing Nico Harrison, who was fired in November. Ujiri brought in Mike Schmitz as general manager. Dusty May was hired as head coach on June 23. Dallas went 26-56 last season. Kyrie Irving missed all of it after tearing an ACL in March 2025. Cooper Flagg averaged 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists and won Rookie of the Year.
Dallas took Morez Johnson Jr. ninth overall in June. Santi Aldama, Marcus Sasser, Zaccharie Risacher, and Tarik Biberović all arrived in summer trades. Khris Middleton and Marvin Bagley III were the departures.
Marshall missed the last three games of 2025-26 with a left hip contusion, including the regular season finale against Chicago. He will switch from No. 13 to No. 3 for 2026-27.
Dallas carries 16 players on standard contracts and has to reach 15 by opening night. All three two-way spots are filled.
