The Brooklyn Nets circle back to the New York region after taking the 22-point loss to the Chicago Bulls.
And they're part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day slate of games. Will this mean their contest against the Phoenix Suns will air nationally?
The Nets still have a local televised audience in hosting the Suns -- as this game will air on the YES Network. NBA League Pass, however, presents another avenue for fans who want to tune in over Monday night's College Football Playoff National Championship game.
Here now is Fernie Ruano with the Betting preview:
'We’re moving on up …'
Apparently, that’s all that matters these days at Brooklyn Nets headquarters.
The Nets (12-28), again a home ‘dog when they host the Phoenix Suns (25-17) on Monday night for a 7:30 p.m. (ET) tipoff at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, have taken on the month of January with the kind of inconsistent play that might lead you to believe Brooklyn, 18-19-3 against the spread this season, just might be all in securing themselves a Top 3 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
The Nets (+7.5, +245 on the moneyline), coming off a 124-102 loss in Chicago vs. the Bulls on Sunday night in which they were manhandled from just about start to finish, are playing the backend of a back-to-back, tonight vs. the Suns, who are currently 7th in the Western Conference and have a solid grip on a postseason berth. The over/under is 218.5 points, per DraftKings Sportsbook.
Brooklyn, playing the Bulls for a second straight time, trailed Chicago by as many as 27 points as the Nets allowed the Bulls to shoot 59.6% from the floor and 60% from behind the arc, while Coby White (24 points) scored from just about everywhere on the floor. This after the Nets covered a -1.5 betting line — as home favorite — with a 112-109 victory over the Bulls on Friday night.
Brooklyn, 9-11-1 against the spread at Barclays Center this season, defeated the Bulls on Friday night — their most recent game at home.
The Nets, who play the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night, are 2-8 in their last 10 games and have dropped four of five.
The Suns, 4-0 against the spread when at-least 8-point favorites this season, are 29-11-2 against the spread overall - this season.
Michael Porter Jr., leading the Nets offense with 25.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, is expected to play after sitting out on Sunday night.
Phoenix center Mark Williams is averaging 12.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game, while Royce O’Neale is making 2.9 three-pointers per contest. Suns star guard Devin Booker, questionable vs. the Nets with left ankle soreness, is averaging a team-leading 25.3 points and 6.4 assists per game.
The Nets, who have played multiple games without Porter Jr. in recent weeks, had not reported anyone on their gameday injury report.A s of midday, Jalen Green (right hamstring strain), Devin Booker (left ankle soreness) and Jamaree Bouyea (concussion) were all listed as questionable for the Suns.
Phoenix Suns vs. Brooklyn Nets betting analysis:
If it smells and looks like tanking, then it’s probably.
The Nets, desperately in search of a top-tier pick, or two, in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft continue to rest core players with little notice — Porter Jr. (rest) being the latest example vs. the Bulls, last night.
Keep in mind: The Suns average 112.2 points per 100 possessions on offense and allow 109.9 points per 100 possessions, which ranks them fifth overall in the NBA. However, their stacked injury report should give all NBA bettors thinking of laying -7.5/8 points plenty of pause.
Also: Look for Nets big-man Nic Claxton (7.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game) to give the Suns plenty of problems tonight — especially, when in and around the painted area.
And it’s Martin Luther Day, a variable that makes me believe that the Nets will play well at home.
