The Brooklyn Nets entered Barclays Center with a new roster -- one adding three players after Thursday's trade deadline.
But it was the rookies who stole the show and helped lead the upset of a favored Washington Wizards team Saturday 127-113.
Brooklyn walked in having added Josh Minott, Ochai Agbaji and Hunter Tyson in trade moves. The Nets also parted ways with past second-leading scorer Cam Thomas to clear room for the newcomers.
Yet the first-year guys shined against a team that was a near seven-point favorite. Nets insider for the New York Post Brian Lewis revealed the history that got hit after the game.
"All five of Brooklyn’s rookies have notched multiple assists in each of the last two games. They’re the first team in NBA history to have at least five rookies do so in multiple games since the Nets in 1980-81 (twice)," Lewis posted on the social media website X, formerly known as Twitter.
Veteran Michael Porter Jr. still led with 23 points. But multiple rookies hit double figures.
Starting with Nolan Traore, as the starter dropped 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting from field goal range while dishing out four assists. Egor Demin played the role of facilitator too in hitting two assists with four points. But he also blocked one basket.
Danny Wolf, though, led all rookies with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and two made threes. Wolf pulled down seven rebounds and also dished six assists. Drake Powell joined in on the rookie production -- scoring five points with two rebounds and two assists.
Lastly, Ben Saraf emerged as a breakout surprise -- dropping 10 points off the bench in rounding out the first-year production. He added four rebounds and four assists.
On the veteran side, Day'Ron Sharpe scored 19 points in reserve duty plus grabbed nine rebounds for the near double-double. He also snatched two steals.
Noah Clowney scored 18 points in a starter's role, including nailing a quartet of threes. Nic Claxton joined in on the double-double side by delivering 11 points and hauling in five rebounds.
While the newly added trade assets are ready to play, Jordi Fernandez opted to sit them against Washington. The Wizards, meanwhile, added Anthony Davis and Trae Young to boost the star power on their roster. Both didn't play due to injuries, though.
