The veteran point guard hails Jordi Fernández as one of the league's best, revealing why he fought a trade away from a thriving statistical season in Brooklyn.

With head coach Jordi Fernández and his entire coaching staff receiving multiyear contract extensions this offseason, the Brooklyn Nets' front office has shown trust and patience in it's staff during this rebuilding period.

To this point, Fernández has amassed a 46-118 record in two seasons with Brooklyn, working through two rebuilding years, but has clearly made a postive impact on current and former players.

On Wednesday, former Nets point guard Dennis Schröder joined popular Twitch streamer N3ON's live stream to talk about his journey in the NBA.

One of the most prominent points from Schröder's time on-stream was his praises about his stay in Brooklyn.

"In Brooklyn, for example. We played well, I loved Brooklyn, I love the coach [Fernández], I think he's one of the best coaches ever," Schröder said.

This is high praise considering Schröder's journeyman career in the NBA, having played for 11 different franchises and countless accomplished bench bosses.

With the Nets, Schröder had his best statistical season since the 2019-2020 campaign, averaging 18.4 points, 4.4 assists, and 1.0 steals per game in 23 starts.

But, his time in Brooklyn was cut short as the the Golden State Warriors acquired him for a package centered around De'Anthony Melton.

"Then he [Schröder's agent] called me, and was like 'Golden State is calling,'" Schröder said. "I was like, 'I don't want to go to Golden State.' I think the situation in Brooklyn was perfect. I played well, it was crazy. At the end of the day, it happened, but I went there and it didn't work out."

Since being traded from Brooklyn, Schröder has spent time on three different teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings.

While bouncing from team to team is something that Schröder has gotten used too, it is still disappointing to see the faith he had in the Nets' coaching staff and front office never come to fruition, at least not for him.

But, as the Nets enter the Mikel Brown Jr. era at the lead guard position, it is positive to see how former players view Fernández and his ability to develop talent.

This was reiterated by General Manager Sean Marks after Fernández's extension.

"Over his first two seasons, Jordi has built a strong foundation rooted in player development, a competitive spirit and honest communication, all of which have been embraced throughout our roster," Marks said. "The energy and passion the entire staff relentlessly pour into our players reverberates throughout the organization, and we are excited to have this group continue to lead our franchise into the future."

Getting Brown familiar with Fernández early and often will dictate the young guard's success early on, and help perpetuate growth within the rest of Brooklyn's core.
