New York's two-way star is expected to bring his elite shooting and defensive intensity back to the floor soon, providing a massive boost as the postseason scoring powerhouse Knicks chase a championship.
The New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers are set to tip off their first game of the Eastern Conference Finals Tuesday night and the Knicks appear to be gearing up for the return of one of their top talents.
Forward OG Anunoby, who has been out since May 6 with a right hamstring injury he suffered during Game 2 of the Knicks' sweep against the Philadelphia 76ers, could be back on the floor for New York soon.
For more on the injury report and how things are trending for the Knicks' return to the court, Knicks Roundtable writer Jeremy Lambert has the latest.
Per ESPN, the forward is expected to make his return Tuesday night, barring any setbacks. Whether or not he'll be on any kind of load management remains to be seen until the game is played.
Managing his minutes, especially with a hamstring injury, would not be an unwise move.
The Knicks have been a scoring powerhouse throughout the postseason thus far. The trend has continued without Anunoby, who is the team's second-leading playoff scorer. He is behind only guard Jalen Brunson.
Anunoby has averaged 21.4 points while shooting 62% from the floor and 7.5 rebounds per game in the postseason thus far. He's also short 53% from behind the arc.
Adding the scorer back to the lineup would be a major boon for the Knicks offense, but Anunoby's 1.9 steals per game can also help buoy an already strong defense. Through the first two series of playoff matchups, the Knicks lead playoff teams in defense, giving up just 101.0 points per game.
One of the postseason's best may be able to get even better. The Knicks and Cavaliers tip off at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
