Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards is looking to defy the odds and make a return earlier than expected against the Spurs.
As the second round of the 2026 NBA playoffs gets set between The Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs, the Timberwolves received some massive injury news. Despite being less than two weeks out from suffering a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise, Anthony Edwards may have pulled off one of the more impressive recoveries in recent memory. It is reported that Edwards is expected to play in Game 1 of the second round series against the Spurs, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Charania also reported that Edwards was a notable participant in the Monday morning shootaround and was really pushing to get back on the court. He was cleared by Minnesota for on-court activities on Sunday and was listed as questionable on the official report ahead of the Monday night contest.
Edwards suffered the injury during Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets when he was defending a Cameron Johnson fastbreak layup. After being helped into the tunnel without being able to put weight on the leg, Edwards missed the final two games of that series that ended in six. Regardless, the timeline is remarkable – Nikola Jokić was afflicted by the same injury and missed 16 games.

The four-time consecutive All-Star is Minnesota’s franchise cornerstone, and even if he isn’t ultimately able to suit up, it shows how encouraging his progress is and how hungry Edwards is to get back in the fight against a San Antonio team that perhaps wasn’t expected that.
