Brown seems focused on other things.
The Denver Nuggets ran their win streak to 11 games on Friday night, beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 127-107 in a game where neither team dressed its stars.
Denver (53-28) sat its entire starting five and still cruised to a 20-point win, and afterward, Bruce Brown made it pretty clear that the standings are the last thing on his mind right now.
Brown Would Rather Watch the Masters
When asked whether he's been keeping an eye on the playoff picture, Brown didn't try to fake it.
"I can't speak for everyone but personally I have not watched it," he said.
"I've been too busy watching the Masters this weekend. But yeah, I'm not too worried about it."
Brown finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists in 30 minutes Friday, and that effort was exactly what Denver needed with Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and the rest of the starters getting the night off.
He's averaged 7.8 points and 3.8 rebounds this season, and his ability to fill different roles has been valuable for a team that battled injuries throughout the year.
When pressed about whether it matters who Denver draws in the first round, Brown shrugged that off too.
"I can't speak for everyone, but me personally, no," he said. "I don't really mind [who we play]."
Depth Could Be Denver's Biggest Weapon
The bigger story Friday might have been how well the reserves played together.
Julian Strawther exploded for 22 points, David Roddy poured in a season-high 21 and Jonas Valanciunas went for 23 and 17.
Brown was asked about the value of games like this where the bench guys suddenly get real minutes, and his answer touched on something that could matter a lot going forward.
"Some of the best teams are the ones that are the deepest going into the playoffs," Brown said. "So, when you have games like this, which on paper don't seem as big? How big is it actually to have kind of those role player guys off the bench get good minutes?"
It's a fair point.
Denver has dealt with injuries to every starter this season, and the depth pieces have stepped up when needed.
Friday only builds confidence for the guys who will be counted on to provide a spark when the real games start.
What's at Stake on Sunday
The Nuggets hold the No. 3 seed heading into Sunday's finale at San Antonio.
A win over the Spurs or a Los Angeles Lakers loss to Utah and Denver locks in the three, setting up a first-round matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves (48-33).
If the Nuggets lose and the Lakers (52-29) win, Los Angeles jumps to No. 3 and Denver drops to the four seed to face the Houston Rockets.
Either way, the Nuggets enter the postseason riding an 11-game streak with home court secured, and based on Friday, this roster might have the depth to outlast anyone in the West.
