Trevon Brazile has the mindset Denver needs.
The Denver Nuggets were active during the NBA Draft, making a handful of trades that eventually landed them with Trevon Brazile in the second round, and while the Nuggets are still confident with the roster that they have, adding talented youth is always going to be a good thing.
Brazile had a solid five-year career in college, primarily with the Arkansas Razorbacks and while his numbers in his senior season, averaging 13 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.6 blocks per game show a lot of promise for what he can be, especially as a defensive threat, it may be his mentality that's the most encouraging thing about him.
He was coached by the legendary John Calipari at Arkansas, and if Calipari's resume is anything to go off of, he's a proven winner who brings a killer mentality to any team that he coaches.
Winning Mentality
That's exactly the kind of mentality that Brazile seems to have inherited and in one of his first media sessions as a Nugget, he mentioned Calipari and showed off just how much winning means to him and what his expectations are for himself coming into a franchise like Denver that has been near the top of the league for years now.
"That's what makes this game this game... I love to win, I love to compete," Brazile said (via Guerilla Sports). "Just bringing that mindset here to Denver, an already winning organization."
Denver Needs a Change
Competitive fire like what Brazile exhibited is exactly what Denver needs right now. The Nuggets just suffered their earliest playoff exit since 2022 when they were upset by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round and in that series, the Timberwolves clearly outplayed, outworked and outfought Denver across the court.
That series should be a major wakeup call for the Nuggets as they showed a clear lack of competitive fire throughout the series as Minnesota stormed against them.
Trying to restore the winning culture that Denver fans have grown accustomed to in the last few years and bringing in a rookie with the kind of competitive spirt like Brazile showed to the media could be a great way to shake things up in Denver.
Of course, Brazile actually needs to back up his spirt with play on the court, but with what he's shown in college and the physicality that he's shown, paired with him being one of the older players in the draft, he could be in a good place to make an impact right away.
