The Detroit Pistons have an opportunity to hit the 60-win mark for just the third time in franchise history if they can take down the Indiana Pacers tonight
Now that the Detroit Pistons are down to their final game of the 2025-26 regular season, the Eastern Conference leaders are on the verge of reaching the 60-win threshold for just the third time in franchise history. Standing in their way is a cellar-dwelling Indiana Pacers squad that will finish with the second worst record in the East after tonight, so the two Central Division squads could not meet up for tonight’s clash in any more different circumstances.
Since the Pistons are on the verge of entering the NBA Playoffs as the one seed, Detroit will look to ride the fine line of playing hard enough to secure a win in their regular season finale while managing the rotation in a conservative fashion. The Pistons have just welcomed back both Cade Cunningham and Isaiah Stewart into the fold after their lengthy absences, so Detroit should operate cautiously from a minutes perspective with regards to that dynamic duo.
But for the rest of the Pistons, the Motown hoops squad earns a clean bill of health entering their final tilt before the playoffs outside of some injury management for Jalen Duren. To be more specific, JD is nursing a right knee injury that has bothered him on and off for over a week now, so tonight's game will be an opportunity for the big man to rest up ahead of the playoffs.
From a wider lens, Detroit is entering tonight’s contest with a fair bit of momentum as winners of five of their last six games. The Pistons own a 3-0 advantage over the Pacers in terms of the season series this year, so Detroit will have the opportunity to administer a clean sweep over their rivals if they’re able to put together a victory after tonight’s 6 pm tip-off.
As for an intriguing off-the-court element, Cunningham is still slated to fall just short of the league’s 65-game requirement for the All-NBA teams and postseason awards even with a 20-minute effort tonight. So, the fifth-year floor general is strictly looking to get back on track from a rhythm perspective after returning two games ago against the Milwaukee Bucks.
On the other side of the matchup, the Pacers have not ruled anyone out for tonight’s game at this stage, though they are managing a pair of mild injury situations. Third-year forward Jarace Walker is battling a left foot sprain right now, so the Houston product is currently listed as day-to-day and will be a game time decision according to ESPN. This season, Walker has played regularly throughout 76 games and averages 11.6 points and 5.1 rebounds each night, so the Pacers will have to look elsewhere for that production in their final game.
On top of Walker’s foot issue, the Pacers are monitoring third-year guard Kobe Brown’s back injury after adding the 6-7 wing from the Los Angeles Clippers in the middle of the year. So far, Brown has logged just under six points and three rebounds per game, so the former Missouri player has one more chance to make an impression on his new squad before entering the offseason.
After tonight, the Pistons will have a five-day stretch without a game before the playoffs begin in earnest next weekend.
