Detroit extended its winning streak to seven games in an overtime thriller against the Wizards

On Monday night, the Detroit Pistons took dramatic finishes to another level when second-year point guard Daniss Jenkins hit a corner three-pointer with time expiring to force overtime with the Wizards and Pistons gridlocked at 127 points.

Before that point, the Pistons trailed by 13 points in the fourth quarter, and the team’s then-six-game winning streak was in jeopardy. However, Jenkins and Cade Cunningham ran the show and pulled Detroit back into the game, eventually forcing overtime to decide the Eastern Conference battle.

In bonus time, Cunningham showed his clutch gene to the world once again with a two-pointer to open overtime scoring before converting a pair of free throws shortly thereafter. From that point, Cunningham assisted on a pivotal Duncan Robinson triple from way out, and the Pistons were well on their way to a seventh consecutive victory, one which secured Detroit’s position at the top of the Eastern Conference.

After the game wrapped up, the NBA posted the final sequence of regulation and the entire overtime period onto its YouTube page, and the video can be viewed below.

Cunningham finished the OT win with 46 points, 12 rebounds 11 assists, five steals and two blocks for an all-encompassing productive night, one that is befitting of the MVP conversations Cunningham has begun to find himself nestled in as of late.

The Pistons were handcuffed heading into the second leg of a back-to-back on Monday by a half dozen players on the injury report who would be unavailable for the contest. So, Cunningham was asked to shoulder even more of the load than normal, but Jenkins and Detroit center Jalen Duren helped carry the scoring burden in the Pistons’ dramatic overtime win.
