With the holiday season just around the corner, Pistons star Cade Cunningham is doing everything he can to ensure that families in the Detroit area have a Merry Christmas to celebrate.
On Sunday, the Pistons had the day off, and Cunningham chose to host a huge event called “A Cade Christmas” in Motown for families in the area that might need an extra dose of cheer this holiday season. At the event, Cunningham helped distribute bikes, toys and other gifts for children at the event to help brighten up their Christmas season, and there was a buffet of tasty food available for everybody to munch on.
“I've been trying to do something every year I've been in the league to give back, try to impact the community,” Cunningham said at the event. “This year, I just want to do something a little different than I had in the past. I think it’s turned out great having toys and bikes, all different things put together. Kroger helps a lot, donating with gift cards and bikes and stuff– a lot of help to help me put something together like this. It's a great feeling for everybody.”
Since he’s arrived in Detroit, Cunningham has made it a point of focus to give back to the community each year around the holidays, and the 2025 iteration of Christmas is no different.

For Cade, a sense of philanthropy was developed as a youngster. The Pistons point guard recalls attending Thanksgiving turkey drives that were held in his area growing up in Arlington, Texas, and that left an indelible impression on the young boy who would grow up to become a superstar in the Motor City.
Now that Cunningham is in a position where he can help give back to the community that supports him each time he steps out onto the court, No. 2 for Detroit has acted like the city’s No. 1 supporter off the court with charitable donations and events such as “A Cade Christmas.”

The city of Detroit is fully behind Cunningham, and he’s grown into the role of a selfless leader for the Pistons. On the hardwood, Cade passes out assists as a first priority and looks to score if he can’t make a play elsewhere. That giving, team-first mentality is crystal clear in Cunningham’s character through events like today’s Christmas celebration.
