On Saturday, the Detroit Pistons announced that Marcus Sasser will remain out as he continues to battle a right hip injury that has sidelined him for the duration of the 2025-26 regular season.
In particular, Sasser is dealing with a right hip impingement, which is a condition that relates to how the bones in the hip joint fit together or align, and it’s caused the third-year guard to remain on the injury report to start the year. At times, Sasser has been listed as questionable for Pistons games and others he’s been listed as out prior to the contest, though he did feature briefly in the preseason for Detroit.
In the preseason, Sasser logged 14 minutes in Detroit’s exhibition opener against the Grizzlies, scoring 11 points with four assists in a solid debut performance. After that, Sasser’s usage was limited to just nine minutes as he exited the contest due to hip soreness.
So, it’s safe to say that Sasser has not had an opportunity to show off the burst and scoring touch that has allowed his impact to flourish as an energy sub off the bench during his first two seasons in Detroit.
Last season, Sasser averaged 6.6 points, 2.3 assists and 1.2 rebounds per game, though he was facing an uphill battle in the minutes department as a backup to Cade Cunningham. Still, Sasser showed flashes as a player who can create off the dribble, and he’s a strong outside shooter to help round out his offensive profile.
All-Star Alert: Jalen Duren An Unstoppable Force In Eastern Conference
Pistons center Jalen Duren has played a huge role in the team’s 7-2 start
As of late, Sasser has had a lot of company on the Detroit injury report. In the Pistons victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night, Isaiah Stewart left the game after rolling his ankle, so he will likely carry an injury designation heading into Detroit’s game on Sunday. Tobias Harris missed the Nets game as he continues to deal with a sprained ankle. As of late, Caris LeVert has had soreness in his knee, so it is worth monitoring his status, and of course Jaden Ivey will remain out for a couple more weeks after having arthroscopic knee surgery.

With all of those ailments in consideration, it is remarkable that the Pistons have pieced together a five-game winning streak that’s good enough to propel the team to the top position in the Eastern Conference. Detroit is 7-2 on the season thanks to the late game heroics of Cunningham and the dominant interior play of Jalen Duren largely, but it’s taken a team effort. Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff has delved deep into his bench quite early in the season as a result of the injury situation that Detroit finds itself in. Luckily, the Pistons have stayed relatively out of foul trouble lately, and that’s helped the team piece together such a successful five-game stretch.
Look for further information on Stewart’s status prior to Detroit’s 7:30 tip-off time against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday, Nov. 9.
