Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun filled out the stat sheet on Monday night against the Atlanta Hawks to help his team stay undefeated.
The Houston Rockets were able to stay undefeated as a result of a dominant 120-110 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night, and the strong performance from Houston was in large part due to a great game from center Alperen Sengun.
With that said, let's take a look at the performance from Sengun and see what that could mean for this team moving forward.
In this game, Sengun absolutely filled out the stat sheet as he tallied 29 points, nine rebounds (five offensive rebounds), nine assists, six steals, one block, and six turnovers while also being a +29 on the ESPN box score.
Sengun was also quite efficient when it came to his scoring as he shot 11/15 from the field, 1/1 from three, and 6/8 from the free-throw line.
Overall, this was a great game from Sengun as he showed the ability to attack the rim with force to get high-quality shots, but he was also able to rebound the ball well, play solid defense, and find his teammates for high-percentage shots on cuts and when the defense paid a lot of attention to him.
Seeing Sengun only taking one shot from beyond the arc is a great development because it shows he is willing to attack the rim and use his size rather than setting for perimeter shots. Also, getting some great defensive effort from Sengun is a great sign because it may enable the Rockets to be more creative with their defensive coverages rather than having to put Sengun on a different matchup.
Getting back to the offensive end, Sengun's ability to playmake like this was great because it demonstrates that the Rockets have a player on the interior in Sengun who creates for others, but also a player on the perimeter in veteran guard Fred VanVleet who can make plays for others as well, which is huge and could definitely make a major impact on this team being able to make a deep run in the postseason this year.
Now, it is important to note that Sengun did have six turnovers in this game which is a bit high and was part of the reasons that the Rockets allowed 32 points off turnovers which is something that could get them beat, so that is just something to keep in mind with Houston accounting for 22 turnovers as a team.
Even with the turnovers, this was a great game for Sengun, and based on Sengun's ability to score, rebound, playmake, and contribute on defense, it does appear that Sengun is beginning to elevate his game in a way that could make him a much more well-rounded player.
So, as the Rockets continue to progress through this season, if Sengun can take care of the ball better and keep on being an effective scorer, playmaker, and rebounder, as well as continuing to progress on defense, it is very possible that the Rockets could have a top-tier center on their roster for the 2026 campaign.
