San Antonio closes out six-game home stand with 5-1 record to keep pace for West's No. 1 seed. And now the Spurs head West.

The San Antonio Spurs welcomed the Charlotte Hornets to the Alamo City on Saturday and surged to a 115-102 win.

San Antonio improved to 49-18 (while Charlotte dropped to 34-34), but the Spurs did something else:

They showed off their "gravity.''

Superstar Victor Wembanyama once again led the charge for San Antonio, as he tallied 32 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. "The Alien'' has now scored at least 27 points in the last five games for San Antonio, including three 30+ point showcases.

But it's those assists - eight of them in this game - that stand out.

"It's one more weapon," the 7-6 Wembanyama said of his unique playmaking. "My playmaking most of the time happens by rolling and not even touching the ball, getting guys open by my positioning with my gravity. But I can do that, too."

And now the Spurs' "gravity'' in the standings is about to be tested.

This rebound victory allowed the Spurs to keep pace with defending NBA champion Oklahoma City in a tight race for the top seed in the Western Conference. San Antonio remains just a few games behind the Thunder in the standings.

San Antonio and Oklahoma City won’t meet again until a potential postseason series, with the Spurs shocking the NBA world by dominating the Thunder 4-1 in five regular-season meetings.

But first things first ...

Saturday’s win also marked the final game of a six-game homestand for San Antonio, which saw the Spurs notch five wins inside Frost Bank Center.

And now the Western Conference’s second-ranked squad heads west to Los Angeles to face off with a resurgent Clippers team on Monday at 9 p.m CT.

After the stop in L.A., the Spurs go north to Sacramento to meet the struggling Kings on Tuesday before returning home on Thursday to face the Phoenix Suns.

Are the Spurs up to this road task? Wemby's "gravity'' says it is so.
