The San Antonio Spurs are yet to prove what a three-point-guard-lineup will look like, but De'Aaron Fox seems to have no problem sharing the backcourt with Stephon Castle and De'Aaron Fox.
As the San Antonio Spurs prepare for the 2026-27 NBA season, the biggest questions surround their backcourt rotation. De'Aaron Fox is still an All-Star, despite his lackluster Finals performance, but Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper are both deserving of minutes, too.
It's only a matter of time before Harper officially usurps Fox as the best point guard on the team. Harper has made it clear that he doesn't want to come off the bench, and the Spurs have been steady in their conviction in Fox.
For now, Mitch Johnson will have to juggle the trio. Last year, in limited minutes, running three-guard lineups didn't work, although it wasn't like the sample size was large. To his credit, Fox seems interested in the idea.

De'Aaron Fox Builds Relationship With Young Spurs
It would be easy for Fox to brush off Harper and Castle. For now, it seems, the Spurs are his and Victor Wembanyama's team, although that won't last much longer. Fox, thankfully, is interested in sharing the floor with the Spurs; youngsters as much as possible.
"I think it progressed a lot," said Fox of his chemistry with the youngsters.
"I think that was a big reason why we were able to get to where we did. Obviously, us being a talented group and continuing to learn to play together, I think that we had some success whenever the three of us were on the court. And obviously it didn't happen a lot, especially throughout the regular season. But I definitely expect to see it more and for us to continue to grow in that aspect, just both offensively and defensively."
Fox has long since proven that he is not a reliable 3-point shooter, and in their first NBA appearances, neither Harper nor Castle were dead-eye shooters. However, down the stretch last year, both of them were at least league-average.
If they can play off the ball while Fox drives and kicks, then a three-guard lineup is a lot more feasible.
For now, though, it's worth reiterating that the guys who can maximize Wembanyama will be the ones who get an extended run. The competition to be top dog in San Antonio is a race for second.
