The San Antonio Spurs beat the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night, making their first win at the Frost Bank Center of the 2026-27 NBA season.
The San Antonio Spurs blew out the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night, beating them 130-103. The Kings, with the loss, remain winless, and the Spurs improved to an even 2-2 on the year.
While the Spurs did win "at home" on Saturday over the Dallas Mavericks, that game was played in Austin. Tuesday's win was the first actually in San Antonio.
Heading into the game, the goal for San Antonio was clear:
"We've got to get Vic more involved," explained Devin Vassell. "We talked about it in the film. We'll see where he can get more touches, and we can help him out with him rolling and getting to the basket."
Well, it paid off. Victor Wembanyama finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks in limited action, with garbage time kicking in early.
Spurs Return to Form in Win Over Kings
On both ends of the floor, Wembanyama was easily the best player on the floor, although he wasn't the only red-hot Spur.
Julian Champagnie finished with an excellent 26 points, shooting 8-for-13 from deep. Dylan Harper and Devin Vassell were efficient on offense and aggressive on defense, finishing with 13 and 14 points, respectively.
The Kings, meanwhile, enjoyed 24 points from De'Andre Hunter. Zach LaVine added 22 points for good measure, but Sacramento looked like a team expected to finish at the bottom of the Western Conference. Seventh overall pick Darius Acuff has a green light and was actually second in the entire league in field goal attempts heading into Tuesday. He was solid from 3-point range, making three of his attempts, but shot only 40 percent from the floor overall, finishing with 19 points.
In the first three games, the Spurs came under fire for failing to put Wemby in advantageous positions. As Vassell pointed out, the Spurs would make sure that was a priority. Clearly, the rest of the team got the memo. He finished with nine dunks, tying his career high, getting to the rim with ease, both in traffic and in the open floor.
The Spurs' starters got to rest for most of the fourth quarter, which should be welcome. The Silver and Black will travel to Salt Lake City tomorrow to take on the Utah Jazz. Utah is 1-3 to kick off the season.
