After a lackluster NBA Finals outing, the San Antonio Spurs have been urged to trade De'Aaron Fox. Brian Wright and the Spurs' front office recently addressed those rumors head-on.
As the San Antonio Spurs navigate the 2026 NBA offseason, they aren't really expected to make a blockbuster move. Sure, with rookie Jayden Quaintance out for the next six months, they could use a starting-caliber power forward, and have been linked to several names, but none of them are a league-altering move.
The biggest rumor surrounding the Spurs is their eagerness to get rid of De'Aaron Fox, but it's just that: a rumor.
Despite a lackluster performance in the NBA Finals, the Spurs remain committed to the veteran point guard, confident that he, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper can share the backcourt, at least for the next year.

Spurs Address Trade Rumors Head-On
The Spurs, usually, play things pretty close to the chest, although general manager Brian Wright didn't hold back when asked about Fox.
"We have the ultimate faith in De'Aaron and who he is as a player, what he's been for us and what he means to this team," he said after the NBA Draft. "And there's no wavering in that at all."
In the regular season, Fox averaged 18.6 points and 6.2 assists, making his second All-Star appearance as an injury replacement. All season long, he was one of the steadier hands on the roster, until the Spurs needed him most.
In the NBA Finals, Fox posted just 12.8 points per game on diminished efficiency and disappeared in multiple fourth quarters. San Antonio is sure that it's a fluke and is ready to move forward next season.
"The guys on the court will dictate how fast we go," Wright added. "They drove really fast this year. That said, this group got there, right? And they got there pretty quickly, and very young and youthful, and a lot of firsts. And so we're proud of that. And I think we're always gonna be methodical in our approach and our analysis of what moves make sense for this team. But it was obviously a great season, like you said, and a lot to learn and grow from."
While Fox may have left a lackluster last impression to end the season, the full body of work points to him being one of the better players in the NBA, and the Spurs aren't going to get rid of him over five bad games. As Harper continues to improve, however, fans are going to expect a move to make room for him to take over.
