The NBA trade deadline is quickly approaching on February 5, which means that trade rumors and proposals are going to start flying left and right.
The Memphis Grizzlies are one of the teams that could make quite a few deals in the next week, and the San Antonio Spurs could do their best to take advantage of that.
In a recent article by Bleacher Report's Dan Favale, he lists players who he thinks are every NBA team's top three trade targets approaching for the deadline. For the Spurs, he thinks that they could target Grizzlies stars Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jaylen Wells.
"The more I watch San Antonio, the more I'd like to see them get a super-physical frontcourt partner for Victor Wembanyama. Jaren Jackson Jr. isn't that," Favale writes. "But he keeps with the floor-spacing-around-drivers motif, and this will be a top-three defense even if he and Wemby aren't the bulkiest duo. Jaylen Wells slides nicely into the 'San Antonio needs more shooting and perimeter defense' bucket without breaking the bank. Literally. He is under contract through 2027-28 (team option) and tops out at $2.5 million."
The most obvious player that could be on the trade block for the Grizzlies is Ja Morant, but there have been multiple reports claiming that they could be interested in trading some other pieces as well.
Jackson would make for one heck of a defensive front court with Victor Wembanyama, as he is a former Defensive Player of the Year winner. He is also having a solid season with 19 points and six rebounds on 48 percent shooting from the field.
As for Wells, he has not taken the step forward in scoring that many thought he would, but he has still shown that he has the makings of a great NBA player on both sides of the floor.
The Spurs are currently in second place in the Western Conference, but their once-notable hole in their lineup is at the power forward spot. Harrison Barnes is currently the starter, and it is obvious that he is showing his age.
If the Spurs were to make a big move at the deadline to take them over the top, taking advantage of the Grizzlies selling some of their stars could be something for the team to consider.
