The San Antonio Spurs have been rumored to have interest in trading for Boston's Jaylen Brown, although they are yet to make an inquiry regarding his availability.
Much like in years past, the San Antonio Spurs are being swept up in offseason NBA rumors. After trading up to draft Tarris Reed from UConn, the trade rumor mill is just getting started, with the Spurs being linked to Aaron Gordon and Kawhi Leonard and apparently getting ready to move on from De'Aaron Fox.
In free agency, the Spurs have been connected to John Collins, Rui Hachimura, and Dean Wade, among others.
However, the biggest and best name supposedly on the Spurs' radar is Jaylen Brown. After being included in talks for Giannis Antetokounmpo, the 2024 Finals MVP seems to be on the outs with the Boston Celtics, and the Spurs are a sensible landing spot.
The problem? The Spurs haven't showed any interest, and several other teams have.
Spurs Haven't Made An Offer for Brown
While the Spurs have the means to make a splash for Brown, and he clearly fits an area of need, so far it just seems to be a rumor.
After Brown was not traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston revealed that he is available. Several teams want him.
"Brown has drawn trade interest from various teams across the league, including the Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets, Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Atlanta Hawks, and Los Angeles Clippers," listed HoopsHypes' Michael Scotto.
Missing from that extensive list? The Spurs.
The Spurs could send Fox (plus Carter Bryant and draft picks) to Boston, giving them a starting five of Victor Wembanyama, Devin Vassell, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, and Brown, with Keldon Johnson, Luke Kornet, and Julian Champagnie all coming off the bench, although for now it seems the Spurs want to stay the course.
This summer, don't expect the Spurs to make a massive trade. However, if the February trade deadline rolls around and Harper has surpassed Fox and Brown still wants out, expect talks to finally be visited, unless Boston has accepted an offer from one of the teams currently listed.
After all, they can all offer substanatial packages for the MVP candiate!
