Even after signing Tobias Harris to a two-year deal, the San Antonio Spurs have the means to go out and round out the rotation in free agency.
As things stand, after signing Tobias Harris and after the NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs have 13 players signed to guaranteed deals for next season. That gives them two standard contracts to work with, but not a ton of money.
The Spurs have the bi-annual exception, which can target a player worth up to $6 million annually. After drafting Tarris Reed and Jayden Quaintance in the first round, the Spurs don't really need to bring back Bismack Biyombo, Kelly Olynyk, or Mason Plumlee.
So if a center isn't a priority, who should the Spurs target? Guard depth, guard depth, guard depth!
Spurs Should Target Brandon Williams
Between Stephon Castle, De'Aaron Fox, and Dylan Harper, the Spurs have plenty of star power in the backcourt. Beyond that trio, however, things get dire.
Lindy Waters III and Jordan McLaughlin are yet to re-sign with the Spurs, and while they're both capable end-of-the-bench players, the Spurs could upgrade, and they won't have to look far.
Brandon Williams spent the last three seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 13 points and 3.9 assists last season. He's only a career 28 percent shooter from deep, but the thought is he would share the floor with either Harris, Julian Champagnie, and Devin Vassell, along with Harper, who is a capable shooter.
Plus, he won't be playing key minites anyway, as long as everyone stays healthy.
Williams broke out in Dallas, emerging as a viable rotation player last season. Granted, it was on a bad team, but he managed to share the floor with Cooper Flagg rather well, so playing next to young superstars isn't new tro him. In San Antonio, that's a key trait.
According to James Baxley-Cross of Dallas Hoops Journal, the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and Boston Celtics are all interested in Williams. Those teams could use a backcourt depth piece.
So could the Spurs.
With limited financial resources, expect the Spurs to use the remainder of the offseason to simply round out their roster, barring a massive trade. Williams fits the bill. He's far from the only option, but as things stand, he seems to be a perfect fit for San Antonio.
