Victor Wembanyama cracked a joke about Stephon Castle's draft position, highlighting their growing chemistry and the promising future of this young Spurs duo.

The chemistry between Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle continues to grow, and the San Antonio Spurs’ young duo gave fans another glimpse of their strong connection following a recent win.

After the team's win against the Charlotte Hornets, Wembanyama joked in the postgame interview that he was glad Castle did not go No. 1 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft.

"He 100 percent deserved to be the No. 1 pick, but I'm so glad he wasn't," Wembanyama said.

Castle’s rise has been impressive since entering the league. The Spurs selected him with the fourth overall pick after a standout season at UConn, and he quickly made an impact at the NBA level. He went on to win Rookie of the Year and has continued developing into one of the most promising young guards in the league.

He is currently averaging 16 points and five rebounds per game on 47 percent shooting from the field. But the most impressive thing about his stat line is his passing, as he is averaging seven assists compared to four in his rookie season.

That has given them enough playmaking to jump up all the way to fourth in the NBA in points per game. This comes after they were in the bottom half of the league in terms of scoring the ball last year.

For the Spurs, the partnership between Wembanyama and Castle is quickly becoming the foundation of the franchise’s future. One is already considered one of the league’s most unique superstars, while the other is emerging as an elite two-way guard with leadership potential.

But make no mistake, Stephon Castle is not the Robin to Wembanyama's Batman. He is his own player who can carry the team for stretches even without Wemby. This was evident in the team's game against the Nuggets, where the French phenom did not suit up.

And even without him, San Antonio hung around with Nikola Jokic and company until the very end.

If their recent performances are any indication, San Antonio may have found the next great duo to lead the organization into its next era of success.
