The San Antonio Spurs will host the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night, looking to pick up their first win of the season immediately after a disappointing loss to the Houston Rockets.
The San Antonio Spurs won't have much time to recover from Friday's demoralizing loss to the Houston Rockets, falling 114-110 after a would-be game-winning layup from Victor Wembanyama was blocked by Amen Thompson.
"I would have dunked the ball," said Wembanyama after the game, well-aware of the fact that he was rather timid in the final seconds.
The Dallas Mavericks, like the Spurs, dropped a game to the Rockets, although they had already found their first win, beating the Indiana Pacers on Friday.
Before tipoff, we have you covered with everything you need to know, from betting odds to TV info, and injury reports for both squads.

In Dallas' most recent win over the Pacers, Cooper Flagg went down hard, fouled by Aaron Nesmith. He did not return, and head coach Dusty May said he will be reevaluated in a few days. The Mavericks are hoping to return to postseason contention--or at least the play-in--this season, and any injury to Flagg makes that effort even more unlikely.
The Spurs, to their credit, did come out of the gate swinging against the Rockets, looking to set the tone. Expect more of the same tonight. De'Aaron Fox has already gotten testy with Chet Holmgren and Kevin Durant. Maybe he'll go three-for-three, hoping to bring some intensity to tonight's game.
The Spurs aren't quite in "desperation" mode just yet, although seeing them struggle against the Rockets (a very good team, but one they should beat) didn't inspire a ton of confidence. Dallas, meanwhile, is a solid young team, but they have a long way to go.
All that to say that the Spurs are heavy favcorites for a reason.
