The San Antonio Spurs have been urged to trade away De'Aaron Fox, and an Eastern Conference team makes sense as a landing spot.

All offseason long, the San Antonio Spurs have remained firm that they will not trade away De'Aaron Fox...yet.

Eventually, the Spurs will probably have to move on from him. He's a solid player, but his massive four-year contract will prevent the Spurs from getting their young core under contract long-term, so before Dylan Harper is due for an extension, the Spurs will have to move on from him.

That doesn't mean that they have to trade him away now. He has four seasons left on his current contract, and Harper has three, so they could keep the band together until 2028. If they wanted to make a move, though, one Eastern Conference team has emerged as a possible suitor.

Celtics Could Trade for De'Aaron Fox

The Boston Celtics are not in disarray, but they are in the middle of an overhaul. Since winning the title in 2024, they've lost Al Horford, Luke Kornet, Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown, and Kristaps Porzingis. Only Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, and Payton Pritchard remain from the core.

On a recent podcast appearance, a reporter for The Athletic was listing potential Boston trade targets to get the Celtics back on track. Fox stood out.

"I have another name," said James Edwards III, "that I think could work with how Boston plays: De'Aaron Fox. I think the Spurs are going to have to make a decision on that sooner rather than later, with Castle and the emergence of Harper."

If Boston had their way, it would boast a starting five of White, Fox, Tatum, Sam Hauser, and Mitchell Robinson. That's a solid roster.

"If you could have somebody who can push the pace for Boston, somebody who can create those paint touches and kickouts for Boston, Fox, when healthy, is a good defender," Edwards III added. "A White and Fox defensive backcourt is really good."

In order to make the deal work, though, there's no way the Spurs wouldn't be sent Paul George. Now 36 years old, George has two years left on his maximum contract, which is one of the worst deals in the NBA.

Ideally, a lineup of Dylan Harper, Stephon Castle, Paul George, Tobias Harris, and Victor Wembanyama, with Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Julian Champagnie, and Luke Kornet coming off the bench, would be one of the best in the league. However, George is no longer reliably healthy, and he's not worth the $54.1 million he's owed this season.

Seeing Fox in Boston would be itnerssting, but there's no path for him to be sent there.
