It took a few games to get settled in, but Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama is back to dropping performances that are anything but ordinary in a four-game winning streak for San Antonio.
After a slow start to the season following a trip to the NBA Finals a year prior, the San Antonio Spurs have rattled off four straight wins to creep back into the spotlight.
While a wide variety of supporting members have had starring roles in the stretch, the leader of the Spurs is arguably the biggest reason for the sudden turnaround.
Victor Wembanyama is once again dropping Most Valuable Player numbers on offense and defense every night, as he looks to bring home the title this year off of his runner-up finish.
Since being held to one made field goal in the debut against the Oklahoma City Thunder and denied late by the Houston Rockets, Wembanyama has not let anyone else stand in his way.
In the four-game win streak for San Antonio, Wemby has scored at least 23 points in each outing and peaked at an astounding 43-point total in the Spurs' most recent win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
That red-hot scoring streak has pushed his scoring average to 28 per game through the initial six-game stretch of the schedule.
But it has not only been point that the French phenom has been racking up, as the NBA's reigning Defensive Player of the Year is already making a serious case for a repeat trophy.
Wembanyama has notched a total of 17 blocks in the past four matchups to bring his season total to 25 for an average of 4.2 per game this year.
He has also been a force on the glass, with two double-digit performances in the winning stretch including a staggering 14 rebounds against the Utah Jazz in an overtime thriller.
Putting those recent efforts together with the opening two games, Wembyanama boasts an average of just shy of 11 rebounds per game at 10.7.
Across the entire season, Wemby has already tallied four double-doubles in six games and is averaging a double-double for the year in a awe-inspiring showcase of what the Spurs can get when he is at his best.
With lethal scoring, rebounding prowess and punishing defense, it is becoming more clear with each passing game why the moniker of "The Alien" was bestowed upon the young star in San Antonio.
He will look to continue his otherworldly outings when the Spurs take on the Jazz for the second time in three games, with Utah making the trip to San Antonio this time.
Wembanyama and the Spurs tip off with the Jazz from Frost Bank Center at 7:30 p.m. CT on Monday night.
