After a career-best season under Jordan Ott, the veteran wing discusses his "dream come true" partnership with Devin Booker and embracing his signature villain role in Phoenix.
The Phoenix Suns shouldn't have to worry about a misaligned locker room anytime soon.
This is according to Dillon Brooks at least - the 2017 second-round pick joined "The Road Trippin' Show" to discuss his experience over the last year as a member of the Suns, with near-unanimous praise over the course of the tenure.
“I’m loving it. I think it was a dream come true… Love the coaches, love my players, and the fans are exquisite," Brooks said.
Brooks enjoying his time as a Sun is a culmination of a partnership that was many years in the making, as the Phoenix Suns were under the impression that the Memphis Grizzlies would ship the wing to them in a trade involving Trevor Ariza in December 2018.
The pairing finally came to be last summer when the Kevin Durant trade was completed, with Brooks embracing the city and fanbase as much as the other way around. The fanbase was admittedly lukewarm on Brooks joining them at first but quickly grew to embrace the edginess that the 30-year-old provides.
Brooks proved to be an ideal cultural fit, as well as an optimal on-court one, as he averaged a career-best 20.2 points per contest under the innovative Jordan Ott. The 6'7" forward has clearly embraced his role with the Suns and has built up a strong rapport with a diverse coaching staff that excelled in maximizing the personnel that the roster presented a season ago.
Perhaps the most crucial development from the statement made by Brooks is the confirmation that he gets along with his teammates to an undeniably strong degree. The most vital relationship Brooks will be maintaining moving forward is franchise player Devin Booker, while he remains close with former Houston Rockets teammate Jalen Green.
The majority of the 2025-26 roster remains for the time being, but Miles Bridges being integrated into the lineup will be a challenge that faces the coaching staff and Brooks.
One thing that is for certain is that the soon-to-be nine-year vet will continue to embrace his role as a "villain," the Phoenix fanbase has grown to love the edge he has provided to the franchise and his role as the de-facto co-star to Booker.
This is all being reconciled in an effort to bring Phoenix back to the postseason for a second consecutive season while also attempting to reach his first All-Star game.
