Mat Ishbia could ignite a championship window by pairing Devin Booker with an intriguing co-star, utilizing a strategic midseason swap to land New Orleans' explosive powerhouse.

Brian Gregory and the Phoenix Suns organization have been quite active this offseason.

Between re-signing Collin Gillespie/Mark Williams/Jordan Goodwin, trading for Miles Bridges, and extending Dillon Brooks on Wednesday night - there's little doubt that the franchise is doubling down on largely sticking to what worked during the 45-win 2025-26 season.

Still, there's something that's left to be desired, as it's widely understood that the Suns won't seriously contend for a title during franchise player Devin Booker's age-30 season.

This development places some pressure on Gregory and franchise governor Mat Ishbia to make a "splash" move in the near future - one that will open up a window of contention, or at least setting the stage for the window to open.

One name that has stood out in recent months: Zion Williamson.

Many semantics would go into making a trade for the former number one overall pick, but he would instantly be Phoenix's second most talented player and would boost the ceiling of the upcoming team - is he truly attainable though?

Below is a trade proposal that would financially work for both sides:

Suns receive: Williamson

Pelicans receive: Jalen Green, Mark Williams, 2028 second-round pick (via Chicago)

This trade would have to be a midseason one, as Williams can't be moved until mid-January due to being re-signed using Bird rights, receiving an increased salary, and the Suns being over the cap.

This seems to be a no-brainer for the Suns. While Green still has a hypothetically high ceiling, he has yet to tap into it consistently, while Maluach will likely receive chances to prove that he is ready to take the mantle at center in the early stages of the season.

The proposal is more conflicting for the Pelicans, as they already roster a similar player to Green in Jordan Poole, while they have also invested much into Yves Missi and Derik Queen at the center spot. Even then, it seems as if a fresh start for both parties is in the best interest of each.

At the end of the day, this is a low-risk, high-reward move for the Suns. They would essentially only commit to a year-plus of Williamson and could feasibly move on swiftly if things didn't work out. In an absolute best-case scenario, Williamson stays healthy and provides Booker a co-star that he needs to truly elevate the ceiling of a team knocking on the door of contention.
