Phoenix solidifies its core by locking down the fearless forward through 2030, securing a career-best scorer and defensive anchor to lead Jordan Ott’s aggressive new roster paradigm.

The Phoenix Suns have secured a major piece of the organization for the foreseeable future as of Wednesday night.

Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the Suns and forward Dillon Brooks have agreed to a three-year, $73 million deal that will keep the two tied together until the conclusion of the 2029-30 campaign.

The two sides have reportedly been in talks over an extension for weeks now, with hold-ups such as the trade for Miles Bridges and the signing of Luke Kennard delaying an official agreement, although local insider John Gambadoro added more context to the discussions.

"Dillon Brooks three-year extension for a fully guaranteed $73 million with no options came together today. Came together quickly. Suns want Brooks to finish his prime years in Phoenix and he wanted to be here. The first year of the contract will pay him a little over $22 million."

Brooks, 30, is in the midst of beginning his second season in Phoenix after being a centerpiece in the trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets last July. Brooks enjoyed a career year with the Suns, averaging over 20 points per game and even receiving All-Star hype from NBA legend Charles Barkley in the process.

The expectation was that the Brooks contract would come in the four-year, $100 million range - the officially agreed-upon figure will allow for the Canada native to cash out on another contract sooner while also providing a bit more flexibility for Phoenix's front office to maneuver roster-building efforts.

While many detracted this deal from materializing, it was always clear that Brooks' hard-nosed approach and fearless attacking mindset were seen as invaluable to the front office and head coach Jordan Ott. The continuity that retaining the 2017 second-round pick provides the Suns is crucial to their efforts in the upcoming season, especially in the midst of parting with Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale.

Phoenix re-signing Mark Williams, Collin Gillespie, and Jordan Goodwin was a sign of what the overhauled approach from management would be - this is simply a confirmation that a paradigm shift has occurred.

Now, Brooks will solely be focused on preparing for the 82-game slate, as eight weeks remain before the Suns report to training camp in anticipation for the five-game preseason slate that begins on October 5.

Expect the 82-game regular season schedule to officially be unveiled next week in what will be the season debut for Brooks and company.
