Entering Monday night, it looked like the Minnesota Timberwolves finally started clicking again. The team was on a five-game winning streak, with their most recent win being an 18-point comeback against the LA Clippers.

Yet somehow, despite having all the momentum possible, the Timberwolves lost to a Phoenix Suns team without both Devin Booker and Jalen Green. To make matters worse, the Timberwolves have been healthy, and Anthony Edwards had 40 points on the night.

Following the loss, the Timberwolves now have an overall record of 15-9, which places them in sixth seed in the Western Conference. Monday night's loss was one that Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch spoke candidly about.

Chris Finch's Thoughts on the Loss

While the Timberwolves had some good looks against the Suns, there were also a handful of shots that they could have worked harder on - something that Finch agreed on.

“I thought a lot of them were decent looks, Finch said. "I thought there were a few moments in the game where I thought we could’ve worked a little to get maybe a better shot, but, you know, for the most part I thought we had some decent looks.”

The other big issue the Timberwolves seemed to have was numerous defensive interior breakdowns that led to an 11-point deficit. Eventually, the Timberwolves did adjust, but it was too little too late.

“You know, a lot of it was actually ball contain when guys were penetrating and, you know, they did a good job of looking for the big and the dunker. As the game went on, we kinda adjusted and were a little better there.”

An Unexpected Bright Spot on the Night

While the Timberwolves' loss to the shorthanded Suns may have been incredibly disappointing, they got some great minutes out of bench guard Bones Hyland.

Hyland finished the night with 14 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound, and 1 steal on 62.5% shooting from the field in 15 minutes. After the game, head coach Chris Finch made sure to give his young guard some credit.

“Yeah I mean listen, I thought we were 24 games in, and it was time to try something different. He’s been patient and has been playing really well in practice, doing everything that we asked him to do.”

Coming up next for the Minnesota Timberwolves is the Golden State Warriors on Friday night. While the Warriors have been shorthanded, they recently defeated both the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Bulls, making the Warriors another team that the Timberwolves can't look past.
